The new company’s goal, according to a press release, is to develop unique console games that may one day change how games are played. Armature Studios is also accepting resumes for all departments, from the art to audio and production departments. I did try to contact the company to ask if they were currently working on a project but they are still trying to fill current positions listed on their job boards.
From what I was able to find out the idea behind the new studio is to stay small but still be able to create AAA titles with the help of EA and its vast resources.
No current game releases have been announced and, while attending the Austin Games Developers Conference September 16 and 17, 2008, along with EA where Kevin Kelly of Joystiq caught up with Matthews to talk about their departure from Nintendo and the recent unemployment issues in Austin, TX (USA). Matthews told Kelly that Armature plans to hire local talents.
“A lot of recent layoffs in Austin are really unfortunate,“ Matthews told Joystiq. “But I’m hoping that with all the turmoil, we can get some new talent and studios rising from the ashes. As for the rest of the industry, I’ve got no complaints.“
During the interview, Matthews indicated that the studios plan to create games for hardcore gamers regardless of the consoles they use although most information was a vague. With Armature Studios being the new kid on the block, it will be interesting to keep track of the company just to see what kind of games they have in store for gamers.
