Japanese DS gamers are about to get a true blast from the past in the form of updated classic Arkanoid DS. The new title will feature 140 levels of brick breaking action, and even an optional paddle controller that emulates the true arcade feel. The new controller plugs into the GBA game port on the bottom of the DS, though gamers can opt to use the touch screen and stylus.
The original game is simplicity defined: you control a small paddle on the bottom of the screen, moving horizontally as you send a ball careening upwards towards day-glow bricks. Your objective is to clear the level of bricks without losing your ball to the abyss.
Arkanoid DS modernizes the old formula by adding the aforementioned 140 level clear game mode, a quest mode, and several unlockable levels and screens.
In other news, it looks like wacky new controllers aren’t just for the Wii anymore. In Arkanoid’s case, it makes perfect sense. Arkanoid DS is set for a December 2007 release in Japan with no word yet on a North America version.
