Ankama is pretty well known among PC gamers. After all, they’re responsible for the wildly popular DOFUS, and the DOFUS sequel Wakfu. Well, the company is making the jump to consoles now. Its first game will be Islands of Wakfu for the Xbox Live Arcade.
Don’t go rushing out just yet and start clamoring to buy it! It won’t be ready and released until late 2009. I’m guessing that means after August or September, 2009. Plus, if you’re hoping for some sort of Xbox Live Arcade MMO experience, think again. Islands of Wakfu is going to be an action-adventure/beat ‘em up game. The only multiplayer announced so far is a two player team mode.
If you’re disappointed that Islands of Wakfu isn’t going to be a console adaptation of DOFUS or Wakfu, there is still a slight silver lining that may cheer you up. Islands of Wakfu will apparently reveal background content and information on the world in which all three games take place. So there’s still that.
Personally, I’d like to see some sort of DS game by Ankama. I love the art style and design of their previous games, and I really think a portable DOFUS would be a huge hit.
