Amaterasu’s legacy continues in Okamiden DS

After Clover Studio closed, the future of Okami seemed uncertain. Yes, Capcom and Ready at Dawn put together a Wii port of the original game, but the future of the series remained in question. That is, until Famitsu revealed the DS exclusive sequel Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyou. It’s a sequel to Okami. As you can see from the Famitsu scan above, it’ll be a single player game and out in Japan in 2010.
IGN has the most information on the game right now. Okamiden takes place briefly after Okami and stars Chibiterasu and Issun. Think of her as a puppy version of Amaterasu. The land is in trouble again, and Sakuya has called upon Chibiterasu for help. In order to accomplish this task, Chibiterasu has to work with partners to accomplish tasks, wield the Celestial Paintbrush to change the world/solve puzzles/progress and fight against villainous creatures.
The screenshots from the Famitsu article look great and it sounds like a promising DS game. With the stylus and touch screen, the DS should provide the ultimate and easiest Celestial Paintbrush experience. If it gets a North American release, which it likely will since Okami was a roaring success, Okamiden could have day one purchase potential.

on September 4, 2009 at 08:33 AM - LINK@ Kei: It could just be the intro shots. After all, this is the first peek from Famitsu.
@ Janine: Same here! I hope they don’t have those STUPID puzzles where you have to get down to the bottom of a mine/well. I never finished the original Okami cause I couldn’t get that rabbit/princess/girl Kaguya to the bottom of one of those!
