Alien vs. Predator Requiem for PSP in stores now
Sierra Entertainment announced on November 15, 2007, that they have shipped Alien vs. Predator – Requiem for the PSP to retailers nation wide (US). The game, from the creators of the original AvP for PC, features two of the most important science fiction icons of our time and will follow the events of the upcoming movie with the same name by 20th Century Fox.
The events in the game will take place after the end of the first Alien vs. Predator movie. After the Alien queen is defeated, the Predators get back on their ship carrying a survivor with them not knowing that it was infected with an Alien hatchling. Keeping with the tradition of its species, the hatchling bursts out of the Predator’s chest and chaos ensues. The Predators’ ship crashes on Earth and Aliens are roaming free again.
Players will take the role of an elite Predator hunter charged with the task of mopping up the mess created by the escaped xenomorphs, hunting them down and taking them out along with any threatening human that gets in the way. This hunter carries all the bells and whistles any self respecting Predator does like a Combi Stick (a kind of telescopic lance), extendable wrist blades, a Smart Disc (a cutting disc that returns like a boomerang) and the always handy shoulder cannon. The Predator’s trademark vision modes also make an appearance offering the player different options like thermal and tech vision and last but not least, players will be able to employ the famous Predator active camouflage.
The game employs a system that rewards killing in an honorable fashion. Aliens and armed humans represent a threat so players are rewarded for those kills, while slaying innocent bystanders (that’s humans, by standing Aliens are fair game) will reduce the Honor score. This score will allow players to purchase new weapons and upgrades in between levels.
I hope this game nails the hunter nature of the Predators because the last Alien vs. Predator movie got it all wrong. Predators are supposed to be these bad-ass ninja-like hunters, knowing all about Aliens and how to hunt them, to the point that they seem to do it for sport. It seems ridiculous that a pack of Predators is almost wiped out by a few Aliens. It would be like going on a hunting trip and then coming back like: “… I barely made it back alive… that deer took out all of my buddies… “
The game looks like a good addition to the Alien vs. Predator mythos so let’s hope it doesn’t follow the formula of crappy games based on movies. Alien vs. Predator – Requiem is in stores now only for the PSP system.
