Aeria Games has announced that its newest. free-to-play, massive multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) Cronous has advanced to the closed beta period, and email invitations have been sent to Aeria Games members. If you’ve already received an email invite, you can log into your Aeria Games account to activate your Cronous account. If you haven’t, you can sign up for the beta period at the official site.
Cronous has a very elaborate backstory involving gods by the name of Lapis, Exiliss, Coellis, Maquapel and Scape. There was a war among Lapis, Exiliss, Coellis and Maquapel, and the evil Maquapel was vanquished by the three good gods. Scrape stayed aside as an observer, and sealed himself away when everything was done. The story in Cronous picks up with five Arkmodeum leaders trying to resurrect Maquapel and the Oracle organization trying to stop them. It goes on, but its really complicated and hard to paraphrase, so I suggest visiting the Cronous story page if you’re interested.
So basically, in Cronous, you’re trying to save the world and discover the truth behind the wars that happened in the past. Right now there are four character classes, so you choose one, customize your character’s appearance with armor, go through dungeons and areas fighting enemies, join guilds, raise pets and what-not. Basic MMORPG fare.
Cronous seems pretty accessible for players, at least when it comes to requirements. PCs with Windows 95 and up will be able to run the game, provided they have at least an Intel Celeron 500 processor and DirectX 8.1 or higher. Mac users are out of luck though - like most free-to-play MMOs, Cronous is only for PC users.
