Activision offering refunds for Guitar Hero III for Wii

by Pulkit Chandna on Feb 28, 2008 at 11:13 AM

Guitar Hero IIIThere have been umpteen complaints from Wii gamers about the audio of Guitar Hero III and the game’s publisher, Activision, has been stimulated into action by these complaints. Activision is offering a refund to Wii gamers who have issues with the game’s promised audio - the Wii version only outputs mono sounds while the game’s box promises Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound. A class-action suit was also brought against Activision for reneging on its promise of Dolby Digital sound in December 2007.

The publisher might have backtracked on its promise of digital sound but it has kept its promise of offering refunds and replacements to owners of the Wii version of GHII in early 2008. Activision, which announced the refund in a statement on its website,  is offering either a full refund of $132 or a replacement disc. Owners of the Wii version of GHIII will have to fill a form to exercise either one of the options. There are separate forms for disc replacement and refund that are available online on the publisher’s website.

The publisher stated that it had worked closely with Nintendo to iron out issues with the Wii version of GHIII. According to gaming website Next-Gen, users can only avail for a refund until August 31, 2008.

While refunds and repayments are fair enough, game companies should also compensate gamers for all the frustration and heartache that botched games bring in toe. Maybe, a box of chocolates might suffice.
