About Friggin Time: Komodo Adapter will let you use old controllers with your Wii (updated)

by PJ Hruschak on May 14, 2009 at 08:07 PM

komodo adapterA press release sent by game product distributor Innex today (May 14, 2009) announced the upcoming release of the Komodo Adapter, a “3-in-1 Virtual Retro Adaptor [sic] that allows gamers to connect NES, SNES, and N64 controllers directly to the Nintendo Wii video game console.”

Now you can put your old controllers back in action and get that truly old school retro feel when you play those old-system games on your current gen console. Think of it as a cord to the past or, more current/green, a device that lets you reuse old tech. Me likey.

The adapter will utilizes the GameCube controller port on the Wii be available in time for E3 2009, cost about $20 and will even support third-party controllers. It will also be on display a the company’s E3 booth (Booth # 2547, South Hall), when we’ll probably start to get images of it.

Here’s a bullet list of the highlights provided in the release:

  • Compatible with Nintendo Wii Virtual Console
  • Connects Through GameCube Port
  • Compatible with 1st and 3rd Party Controllers
  • Compatible with NES, SNES, and N64 Controllers
  • Analog Function Available for N64 Controllers
  • Suggested Retail Price: $19.99
  • Launch Date: Mid June

UPDATE: May 26, 2009 - The company sent me a photo of the adapter, below. Note the words “temporary photograph” on the image, indicating that may or may not be the final design. What is cool, though is that it shows all three adapters connected at the same time. “Battle of the Retro Controllers,” anyone?
