Majesco Entertainment Co, the maker of games including Cooking Mama and Contra 4, has decided to remake the classic NES game A Boy and his Blob for the Nintendo Wii. The original game won numerous awards when it first came out in 1989 and was definitely an entertaining little game.

Who doesn’t remember growing up struggling over what color jellybean to feed a little green blob or remembering what the heck did the rootbeer jellybean does?

In the original game made by Absolute Entertainment, you played as a boy who met the blob after he came to Earth to ask for his help in battling an evil emperor who has seized the throne of Blobolonia. When the Blob was fed him different flavored jellybeans, it would turn into useful objects including a ladder, a hole or a rocket. You used this transfigurations to solve puzzles and collect items.

The fun part of the game was remembering what each types of jellybean does without wasting them (you only had a certain number of each). Often you could kind of guess what they do from their names: cherry was bomb, apple was jack, tangerine was trampoline, strawberry was a bridge, er, OK, that last one doesn’t make sense but you get the idea.

This title plays the same way with same story and should give you that same feel. It features hand-drawn and hand-painted scenes in a 2D environment to give the game that classic feel. The tone reminds me of those old Winnie the Pooh cartoons.

Along with the classic jellybeans, this game is said to offer new flavors including caramel cannon and bubble gum bubble. Hopefully you'll be able to hold more jellybeans so that you can waste a few via trial-and-error esting and not have to worry as much about the loss. Not much is released on this title yet but it promises to a add a brand new play experience that only Wii can provide.

I’m very excited about this title. I loved the original game even though it drove me crazy and half the time I had no idea what I was doing. It was just such a unique game that kept you busy for hours, and I still to this day don’t know how to beat it.

No specific release date is set for America yet but it is expected to come out sometime in the fall.
