Rumor: Playstation 3 possibly inching closer toward an early “Game Over”

by Jason Townsend-Rogers on Jan 5, 2009 at 02:24 PM

Sony Playstation 3While there are undoubtedly a multitude of gamers who are proud of their Playstation 3 purchases, Sony business executives are not as confident, considering that their choice gaming console remains consistently behind the competition and possesses a negative stigma as a product with features that fail to justify its high cost.

Unfortunately, regardless of the current state of the Playstation, Sony business executives have more considerable issues to consider, if this report from the UK Times is any indication.

That publication’s report mentions that Sony is due for “sacred cow-slaying measures” which will “abolish or fundamentally alter many of Sony’s long-standing business practices.”

Reading those words makes one wonder what practices specifically will see the cutting or alteration-room floors. Will Sony limit production of its Vaio computers? Will it stop production of the Walkman line of products?

What will happen to Sony’s Playstation brand?

It appears that, at the moment, Sony’s Playstation brand is safe, considering reports that the company has considerably cut down manufacturing costs to produce its consoles. However, considering the fact that Sony refuses to cut the price of the system and/or adapt to the rapidly-changing gaming market, the situation does not look good.

For now, Playstation 3 owners, along with anyone else who owns a Sony product, should pay special attention to the actions that their company takes within this year. It is now certain that the Sony of tomorrow may not be the Sony of today.

You’ve painted yourself in the corner with this post… Just look a the following quote:

“For now, Playstation 3 owners, along with anyone else who owns a Sony product, should pay special attention to the actions that their company takes within this year.”

So when you buy something from company X, it becomes YOUR company?? I think this particular sentence is betraying you and the message you clumsily try to get through… And I’m not even talking about the unfounded extrapolations you make in the rest of the post…

The only reason Microsoft has sold more 360s is because people buy their children the cheaper consoles such as the wii and 360, not because they are any better. Im sure more than half of the 360 sales are the second 360s or even third that people are forced to buy when their hardware fails miserably.

These articles are really getting friggin old. Playstation is not going anywhere, if anything, it’s growing faster in feature set than the fixbox ever did or will. All the fixbox fanboys are just jealous Microcrap didn’t include a Blu-Ray player, Hard Drive or WIFI as standard equipment.

Huh, I didn’t know that owning a Playstation 3 makes you a part owner of Sony.  It turns out that if you bought a PS3 Sony still isn’t your company.  Instead of worrying about what happens to Sony so much you should just continue to enjoy your console.  Even if Sony folds on the gaming market you’ll still have access to a large library of great games, and you’ll have the Blu Ray player.

Is it just me or is eveybody getting tired of these articles popping up suggesting PS3 is going “Game Over”, sheesh its getting old. Its not just this article, I am seeing a number popping up, even though everybody knows the PS3 has not lost its ground and sales are occurring according to schedule. What a waste of a website space.
