8-Bit Art: BurgerTime’s Peter Pepper in perler beads

burgertime peter pepper ikea pyssla perler beadsFor my second perler beads project I chose one of my all-time favorite arcade game icons, Peter Pepper from BurgerTime (1982).

This one was a little easier to find online since there were already a few patterns. Even so, I didn’t want it to be exactly the same as everyone else’s and I had to work with the 10-color limit of the Ikea Pyssla beads and the Ikea Pyssla 29x29 square.

I converted an image I found online using PCStitch based on the Ikea color pallet I created for my Raccoon Mario project. I tweaked the pattern a little to clean up the edges. I also changed the “H” on his hat to a “P” since it seems to make more sense. His name is Peter Pepper, after all.

As I was putting the beads on the board, I noticed that the design wasn’t symmetrical, causing one leg to be a little larger than the other. I eliminated one small row around the wide leg so I could have a one-peg gap between the shoes.

One word of advice: Make sure you have decent lighting when you work with beads. I was working in a not-so-well lit room and mixed up a couple red and orange beads as well as black and brown. I caught all but one and so there is a brown bead ironed into the final design.

This took about an hour to complete from pattern conversion to final ironing. This hardly made a dent in that $6 bucket o’ beads so expect to see many, many more 8-bit bead creations.

Here’s the pattern and the image it is based on:
