.hack//Link coming soon to PSPs

by Jenni Lada on Jan 14, 2009 at 01:27 PM

.hack//Link mangaThe .hack// series of RPGs are a PS2 staple, but it looks like fans are going to have to go get a PSP if they want the last game in the series. Famitsu has just leaked the latest news about Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2’s next, and last game in the series, .hack//Link for the PSP.

The new game takes place at the same time as the .hack//Link manga, three years after .hack//G.U., and will have some of the same characters, but will have an original storyline. The new game will also feature over 100 characters who appeared in all of the previous .hack// entries. Not all of them will be party members though - only 33 characters will appear as CPU partner characters that will assist you as you journey through dungeons in the latest version of The World, The World R:X. Like in previous games, you’ll be working to try and save The World R:X virtual environment from eminent disaster.

I hope .hack//Link gets localized. It probably will, since the the four part original .hack// games and the three part .hack//G.U. games both were released in North America. Both .hack//Infection and .hack//Mutation were really fun - I never got past those two though. Besides, practically any PSP game that gets released in North America now will definitely receive a warm welcome, and .hack//Link will definitely be a great addition to the game library.

I never got past .hack//Mutation either. I started .hack//Outbreak but quickly got bored and ended up selling all the games. Now I feel kind of sad and wish I’d kept them cause this post reminded me of how much fun I had playing the first two .hack games. I would be tempted to pick up .hack//Link when it comes out, but the whole .hack franchise has gotten huge (all the games, manga and anime series, how many are there now?) and it would require a serious investment of time and money to get all caught up. *sigh* Everyone made fun of .hack for being a soulless franchise designed to milk money from consumers, and maybe it kind of was, but it was still fun!

Your comment about any PSP game getting a warm welcome here…so true. Sad, but true.

Well, that something to really look up to…. Tough I don’t live in North America…. I can say that I can’t wait for this next game… I have all the previous games…. Tough I’m still playing outbreak because it was one of the last I bought… And I don’t believe it was soulless…. In the other hand it was the most fun modern-like RPG I ever played… Personally, it weighed better than the almost stale FF series… Hell… I wish I can use Kite or Haseo again… Last time I heard Kite was encased in ice in the manga… Can’t wait… :)
