by Jonathan Gronli on Apr 7, 2009 at 11:38 AM

tales of heresy
If you’ve stuck around this long through The Horus Heresy, chances are you’re not leaving until it’s fateful end has been written.

Tales of Heresy brings in some veteran writers from the series and other veteran writers from The Black Library for a seven-story ride through various times of Horus’s betrayal. Some dwell on parts of the lore that were merely mentioned by the other books. Most follow events that won’t be covered in depth until later books.

Gamertell Review: Mount & Blade for PC

by Jonathan Gronli on Mar 31, 2009 at 07:39 AM

mount blade coverMount & Blade is a bit of a paradox with the way it is set up. It’s not a hardcore gamer’s game and it isn’t a casual gamer’s game. Halting somewhere in the middle, it’s a bit of an acquired taste with a simple story that mixes Elder Scrolls character building and the Medieval II: Total War game play.

Windows 7 and gaming possibilities

by Jonathan Gronli on Feb 8, 2009 at 09:42 AM

Windows 7 might work better than Vista for some of your older gaming needs
Recently Windows 7 beta went live for anyone to test for free. One of the questions that pops up is whether or not the upcoming Windows release would support a gamer’s needs better than Vista did. The new OS, even though a bit glitchy since it is still a beta program, will be revamping gaming possibilities for the PC like the Games Explorer program, among other things.

One of the things that’s changed with the basic interface…

Honolulu bans for texting, gaming while driving

by Jonathan Gronli on Feb 2, 2009 at 07:41 PM

bus driver psp In October 2008, a Honolulu bus driver was suspended from duty for gaming on the job. On Wednesday Honolulu’s City Council passed a bill by a margin of 7-1 to ban texting and gaming while people are driving.

It’s a pretty good idea, though it did take some heat from local prosecutors and police officer who had argued that the ban would be nearly impossible to enforce. According to KHON-TV, Councilman Rod Tam, the one naysayer regarding the bill, said, “It’s a bad bill. It’s unenforceable.”

Charles Djou, the bill’s author, who had also spoken with police departments in cities where similar bans have been put in place, disagrees…

by Jonathan Gronli on Feb 1, 2009 at 06:11 PM

Fallout 3 xbox 360Lately I’ve heard a debate of which is a better game. Is Fallout 3 better than Far Cry 2 or vice versa?  Simply stated, Fallout 3 is the better, more solid game…

The game is a great and worth the money. Sure, it does have its rough spots. However, this is a shining example of what a “next-gen” RPG and FPS should be…

by Jonathan Gronli on Jan 11, 2009 at 12:16 PM

far cry 2 image

Title: Far Cry 2
Price: $59.99 from most retail outlets
System(s): *Xbox 360, PS3 and PC
Release Date: October, 21, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Ubisoft
ESRB Rating: “Mature” for blood, drug references, intense violence, sexual themes and strong language
Pros: High replayability, great story, beautiful and realistic graphics, intuitive controls, buddy system is new and it works beautifully.
Cons: Environment is too big, enemies are localized in certain areas and don’t leave unless they chase you, search for diamonds is not fun nor is it necessary. Glitches occasionally hinder playability.
Overall Score: Two thumbs sideways, 70, C-, * * out of five.

Far Cry was one of the games that made way for large open-world shooters Crysis. Critics met it with skepticism but, in the end, accepted Far Cry as a great game. In some ways Far Cry 2 is very impressive. In every other ways, Far Cry 2 is painfully average at best…

Capcom’s release list for the first half of 2009

by Jonathan Gronli on Jan 9, 2009 at 12:45 PM

capcom logoCapcom recently released information about the six upcoming games for the first half of 2009 and it looks it will be a strong year.

Thew first release on the list of games is FLOCK! for the Xbox 360. FLOCK! puts you in charge of a UFO herding animals to your mothership. The game, since it will be an arcade game like Luxor and Feeding Frenzy, will feature controls that even the most casual gamer would be able to just pick up and play the game right off the bat. This is promising since quite a few games lately tend to have pretty awkward and confusing control schemes.

Click through to find out about the other five game’s on Capcom’s list…

Spielberg comments on cruddy cut scenes in video games

by Jonathan Gronli on Dec 17, 2008 at 08:13 PM

Steven Spielberg Recently, in an interview Yahoo! Games, film director and part of the development team for Boom Blox Steven Spielberg let the public know about the different problems he’s had with game cinematics.

In the interview he made it brutally obvious that he has been a long-time gamer bring up some of his past with gaming going all the way back to Pong. One of the ways he brought it up was toward the end of the interview where he is quoted as saying, “I thought Pong was the Woodstock of videogaming.” Being that it was one of the first big games of its time, that analogy is pretty accurate.

Spielberg also noted the failing of game cinematics and brought up that a lot of cut scenes try to tell a story. However, due to the obvious switch between gameplay and cut scenes, some gamers take a…
