Gamertell Review: Tales of Monkey Island: Lair of the Leviathan for PC

by Jessica Moen on Sep 30, 2009 at 10:45 PM

What do huge manatees, mutinous crews, and voodoo curses all have in common? The third installment of Tales of Monkey Island: Lair of Leviathan!

In the last episode, our hero Guy Brush and his ship were swallowed whole by an insanely large manatee. Once inside, Guy Brush finds out that the explorer (who is now a bit loopy) he has been looking for was also swallowed intentionally by the beast so that he could it to get to Le Sponge Egrande, which happens to be at the manatee mating ground.

Guy Brush will need the help of the explorers mutinous crew (who would prefer to just live in the manatee forever), to escape the beast, and eventually get to the sponge. But that’s not all; you also have to learn to speak manatee to seduce the rather vicious Leviathan: a large, angry, female manatee that guards the sponge.

by Jessica Moen on Sep 29, 2009 at 08:30 AM

the deepening logo screen shot

A couple guys named Ian and Brant Duncan have taken choose-your-own-adventures games to the next step and created one of the first ever live-action choose-your-own-adventure games called The Deepening.

In the game, a terrorist group has broken into a bank, is holding everyone hostage and has planted a bomb in the basement of the bank. You control the fates of the two officers set out to save the day; the by-the-book rookie, Stevenson, and the rebel, Bukowski. You make the choice between what they do and how they go about doing it, with each choice effecting whether or not they save the hostages or blow up in a huge fiery explosion.

Celebrate “Blob Month” just in time for the release of A Boy and His Blob for Wii

by Jessica Moen on Sep 28, 2009 at 10:17 AM

a boy and his blob for wii box artMany of us are anxious for the new release of A Boy and His Blob by Majesco Entertainment Company. It’s been almost 20 years since the last game came out and we can’t stand waiting much longer.

In dedication to the October 6, 2009, release of the game, Majesco is declaring October “Blob Month.” Each week prior to the game’s availability starting September 24, 2009, the company will be releasing new screen shots, videos and concept art for the new game. (True, the game comes out at the beginning of the month but “Blob Week” isn’t nearly as impressive as “Blob Month”). I assume they will stop being released when the game comes out on October 6, 2009 (it wasn’t stated).

Ten things to do with your Xbox 360 after you get the dreaded Red Ring of Death

by Jessica Moen on Sep 14, 2009 at 08:40 AM

xbox 360 red ring of deathWell dear readers, I have just dealt with the tragedy that many Xbox 360 users have dealt with, the dreaded Red Ring of Death (ie when your 360 suddenly stops working altogether and you see three fed lights around the power button).

There is seemingly little you can do except send it to Microsoft for repairs (assuming the warranty is still good) or buy a new one and hope the same thing doesn’t happen.

Tales of Monkey Island The Siege of Spinner Cay logoThe second half of the four-part Monkey Island series is out now and poor Guybrush still can’t catch a break.

The Siege of Spinner Cay starts with a daring sword fight against the mighty pirate hunter Morgan. (And, no, it’s not an insult sword fight.) After you get rid of her, you are off to save your beloved Elaine, whom you find on Spoon Island, along with a seemingly reformed LeChuck.

Gamertell Review: Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal for Wii

by Jessica Moen on Aug 21, 2009 at 10:36 AM

Ahoy me pirate mateys! It’s time for Monkey Island. That’s right, Telltale games has released a new series of adventure games based on the Monkey Island series from Lucasarts with Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal as the first part.

This series is a bit different from the way you are use to playing the Telltale games. Each of the four games makes up part of one whole game. Each game will end in a cliffhanger and a “to be continued” screen, so you need to play the next one in order to find out how it turned out.
