Games that would sound ridiculous with “extreme” in the title

It seems game publishers believe they can spruce up titles by adding the word “extreme” to it. Whereas this may make some things better (and we love when that happens), most of the time it just seems silly.
Can you imagine if they added “extreme” to certain game titles that really should not be extreme? Take, for example, the upcoming release of Extreme Hangman on DSiWare (February 8, 2010). It might be a great game but we simply cannot get past the name.
With that in mind, here are fifteen examples of games and various life activities that, in no particular order, could or should never be extreme-d…
Mass Effect: Redemption #1 sells out
Fans just can’t seem to get of Mass Effect, especially with the recent release of Mass Effect 2 around the calendar corner on January 26, 2010.
Dark Horse’s newly released comic book (February 3, 2010) Mass Effect:Redemption #1, sold out on the day it was released.
Fans flooded comic book stores all over the country to pick up a copy of the new comic last Wednesday, resulting in all the copies being sold and leaving some fans lacking. Dark Horse clearly was not expecting such a tremendous amount of sales when it printed and shipped the comic to stores.
To make up for the lack of copies, Dark Horse and EA plan to print more copies of the comic to fill the demand.
Man vs. Zombies: Telling a tale through Twitter
For those of you who live under a rock and are unfamiliar with Twitter, it is one of the biggest sites for social networking or just sharing your opinions with the world through updates and link sharing.
But what if we could use Twitter for more then just letting the world know that we just got back from the dentist and are skipping work today? Perhaps it could be used to tell ongoing stories. Well, actually, now it is being used for that.

Opinion: We need more awesome mainstream games for women
What I am annoyed about is the way certain games are marketed. It’s as if game companies are not even considering women when developing certain games or, worse, being very stereotypical when creating games for women.
First I want to point out that almost every game out there has a male lead character. Shooters and RPGs are notorious for this. Sometimes women are offered as secondary characters in a lot of these games but you can’t always control them. RPGs are getting a lot better about this - including Fable and Oblivion to name a few - which offer the choice of being a female. Final Fantasy 10-2 even made the main characters women. Action games and platformers have been hooking us up with female leads with Lara Croft and Samus Aran being the most famous.
Sony Online offering $10,000 G.I.R.L. scholorship
It’s a good time to be a gamer and it’s a great time if you are taking classes to become a game designer. Sony Online Entertainment, with administration by Scholarship America, is currently offering a scholarship associated with its G.I.R.L (Gamers In Real Life) program.
G.I.R.L is a program that is designed to influence more women to get involved in the gaming world. The goal is to get video game designers to develop video games that are more interesting for women to play and to help entice more women to become developers.
One student will win a scholarship worth up to $10,000, which will be applied towards tuition and other school expenses. The winner will also be offered a internship for up to 10 weeks at one of Sony Online Entertainment’s studios (note that room, board and transportation will not be included).
Opinion: Revocation of Chicago’s game ad ban reminds us of gamers’ responsibilities, rights
![]()
As an avid video gamer, I know all too well the extent people go through to ban certain games in their stores and businesses, especially game advertisements.
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is guilty of this by recently banning advertisements of more violent and racy video and computer games on its trains, buses and stations. This is not only a violation of free speech but, by doing so, CTA is intentionally singling out video games to ban, seeing as it still advertises movies and TV no matter how violent or racy they are.
However, the US Supreme court decided that enough is enough and last Thursday (January 7, 2010) by issuing an injunction against the CTA saying that it must lift the ban at least until the case is finally resolved, which was a huge victory for the gaming industry who seems to deal with tons of prejudice.
Gamertell Review: Valcon Games’ Polar Panic for Xbox Live

When a not so nice oil tycoon decides to get rid of all the polar bears so he can take over their land, one Polar bear decides to take him and his poachers on himself.
You play as the unnamed polar bear in this puzzle adventure. Your job is use your polar bear strength to push ice blocks over poachers to crush them, or use other objects such as dynamite to blow them up. As the levels get higher, you encounter more obstacles that may block your path, and the poachers eventually get weapons that they can shoot at you.
Crush or blow up all the poachers, and the igloos they like they hang out in, and reach the exit in the allotted time (yes the levels are timed) to beat each level.
CES 2010: Jelfin debuts its gel-covered mouse
Jelfin, creator of various computer accessories, has just come out with a revolutionary new look for their computer mice and it’s making it’s debut at Las Vegas CES 2010.
Jelfin’s new mouse will be completely round in shape, like a ball, and be covered in gel for a soft feel.
Users of this new mouse will cup their hands around the ball and move it around instead of extending their fingers outward. This, along with the gel covering, is meant to give more comfort to the mouse user.
