mm9_promo_artThis week’s soup de jour at the Playstation Store is undoubtedly Mega Man 9.  It hearkens back to the good ol’ days of “Dr. Wily creates eight new robots to defeat Mega Man,” the way it should be.  It’s likely pathetic but I’ve never felt envious over never being able to afford a current-gen console, given that the whole thing is a mess of either Bald Wars or Tales of Anorexia.  And then along comes this faux 8-bit platformer which pretends time had stopped after 1990 and I’m suddenly frothing at the mouth.

Well, OK. I’m sure Wipeout HD is pretty cool too but it’s all for nothing until somebody brings back the Colony Wars games.

Is it can be list tiem plz…

This week brings more slim pickings at the Playstation Store.  But everyone who bought a subscription to Qore or last week’s episode can now download the demo of Motorsport: Pacific Rift.  Also, the Rock Band dollar discount returns this month for the All That Remains pack, which will go up to $2 next month.

And now, the list…

nothing_signAll’s quiet on the Playstation Store front, again.  Getting the latest issue of Qore will let you access next week’s Motorsport: Pacific Rift demo and all proceed from the PAX Pack will go to Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity.  And that’s about it.  I haven’t heard of whatever drivel is taking up the movie trailers this time.  I got nothing this time, people.  Absolutely nothing.

List time…

Playstation Store Update for the week of August 28 to September 3, 2008

gamertell james bond quantum solace movie posterJust another typical week at the Playstation Store.  Nothing really worth mentioning on the list this time, except that the name of the new James Bond flick reminds me far too much of a Castlevania title. I eagerly await its sequel, Symphony of the Soviets.

Here, do yourselves a big favor.  Go and play Samurai Showdown 2 and Ys instead.

Playstation Store Update for the week of August 21-27, 2008

gamertell devo illustrationThis week has been a little more quiet at the Playstation Store.  The main attraction is Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, the first Playstation Network-exclusive title in the series but there’s few other little firecrackers worth taking.

Rock Band gets a bunch of Devo songs but lacks “Whip It” and I personally believe that fantasy football is the bad yaoi fanfiction of the hardcore sports fan set.

On a final note, in regards to the hooplah over The Force Unleashed, (and I say this as someone who foolishly battles the Internet Hive Mind and very much enjoyed the Special Edition and prequel Star Wars movies) am I alone in thinking the franchise has run it’s course and should be given a very, perhaps eternal, rest?

Anyway, here’s this week’s update list…

Playstation Store Update for the week of August 14-20, 2008

bionic_commando_japanese_boxart

We’ve got a Capcom-a-thon going on for this week’s Playstation Store upadte.  Bionic Commando‘s supposedly very well-done remake is now available (and I still need to beat the NES original) alongside the original Street Fighter Alpha.  While many talk down to the first SFA, as it’s less refined than the second game and less feature and character-packed than the third, it’s an extremely solid fighter on its own merits with a decent cast and some excellent music.  Well worth the cash if you haven’t forked it out already for, say, the PS1 version it’s ported from or Street Fighter Alpha Anthology on the PS2.

Oh, and one final thing about the Rock Band songs for this week.  They’re available at a dollar a pop or for six for the whole pack for this month only.  Then, they go up to $2 each and $10 for the pack.

So there’s nothing new to play on this week’s update.  Instead, we get another issue of Qore and a ton of videos.  Some bonuses lurk within, however.  Annual subscribers to Qore will get a spot on the Resistance 2 beta, exposing players to yet another great helping of World War II and space aliens which are both so sorely underused in this industry.  Also, downloading the Home wallpaper will automatically sign you up for a possible crack at the Home beta.

And with that, click through for yet another long list…

The main feature of today’s Playstation Store update is PixelJunk Eden ($10) and, for an epic co-winky-dink, I figured just what the hell that game is.  Or, at least, I saw it in action and appreciate it for the sperm ovulation simulation it truly is.  Talk about abstract.  It does have some funky music, though.

Anyhow, let’s get right to the list…

1942_joint_strike_screen

This week on the Playstation Store, we’ve got things that are actually interesting For starters, for only this week, a bunch of traditionally $10 games are now going for half-price.  On the regular-priced front, there are a couple of treats: the PSP version of the classic Parappa the Rapper (a must-buy) and 1942: Joint Strike, a remake of Capcom’s maiden World War II-based shmup (1941 would’ve been preferable, but it’s worth a look), along with the episodic debut of the PS3’s first survival horror game, Siren: Blood Call.

The biggest order of the day for the Playstation Store last week, undoubtedly was the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database, which is a compendium of everything in the Metal Gear franchise.  Hopefully this means Hideo Kojima is breaking out the tragic biography of my favorite Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake boss, Running Man: The World’s Fastest Mercenary.

This week’s update, on the other hand, is a bit more Plain Jane…
