Gamertell Review: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PS3

by Lucy Newman on Jul 2, 2008 at 09:57 AM

MGS4: Guns of the Patriots

Title: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Price: $59.99
System(s): PlayStation 3
Release Date: June 12, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Konami (Kojima Productions)
ESRB Rating: “Mature” for blood, crude humor, strong language, suggestive themes and violence.
Pros: Awesome storyline with new twists to the plot in every chapter, great music and familiar and new characters to interact with.
Cons: Camera angle is a little awkward, elements in the environment hinders snake’s ability to use a sniper rifle and even the Solid Eye. The game also has way too many flashbacks and zoom ins that often mute the important information during briefing sessions.
Overall Score: Two Thumbs Up, 98/100, A+, * * * * * stars

Hideo Kojima and the crew at Konami have really outdone themselves with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, creating a thrill to play from beginning to end. And if asked who I’d rather be stranded on a deserted island with, my boyfriend or Snake, hands down it would have to be Snake and the complete Metal Gear Solid series.

Nintendo DS the next alternative to smoking

by Lucy Newman on Jun 22, 2008 at 03:31 PM

Nintedo DS an alternative to smokingWe all have bad habits we’re trying to free ourselves from. Whether its drinking, speeding, or in my case caffeine and chocolate. One of the more popular vices everyone would like to see vanish is smoking. Yep, down with the nicotine sticks, no more dancing with cancer these days. But if you have friends who smoke like I do, asking them to stop will result in their telling you to ‘butt’ out or blow that defiant puff in your face.

It’s a habit that people find difficult to shake, especially if they’ve been smoking for quite a long time, rendering the nicotine patches, gums and carrot sticks useless. But in Canada, members of the Allen Carr Team - founded by anti-smoking guru Allen Carr - found a way to help smokers break their habit with the help of a Nintendo DS.

Opinion: Forbes comparing Apples to oranges with iPhone replacing DS theory

by Lucy Newman on Jun 19, 2008 at 09:13 PM

iPhone a bad iDeaI’m not sure what is going on, but according to Forbes reporter Brian Caulfield, that Apple products may kill the Nintendo DS with applications that may turn cellular phones into a portable gaming system.

Caulfield wrote:

“Unlike Nintendo, which has created a gaming console with a motion-sensitive controller and a touch-sensitive handheld gaming system, Apple has crammed both capabilities into its iPhone and iPod Touch… The ability to pour fresh software into the iPhone, wirelessly, at the touch of a button already has game developers interested. ... The worst sign: Sophisticated games such as Electronic Arts’ ambitious new god-game, Spore, are already slated to be released for the iPhone at the same time it goes on sale for PCs, Macs and the Nintendo DS. ... Looks like the handheld gaming business, so long dominated by Nintendo, could be about to undergo a little evolution too.”

The iPhone could never replace a good old fashion handheld gaming system like the Nintendo DS…

Metal Gear Memorial: Remembering the many years of the Snake

by Lucy Newman on Jun 10, 2008 at 03:34 PM

Earliest Metal Gear game for the old MSX2 computer system I can’t wait for my copy of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots but I don’t want to say goodbye to elite agent Solid Snake, whom we’ve grown to love while following his adventures.

We pray that rumors of an end are not true and continue to pose theories about why the series could never end.  Even so, as a preemptive memorial to help cope with the denial that this may be the absolute last game for Snake, here is a look at the MGS franchise....

Shigeru Miyamoto named one of Time Magazine’s most influencial people of the year

by Lucy Newman on Jun 6, 2008 at 06:31 PM

Shigeru liken to Walt Disney
I was browsing online when I came across a story by the New York Times written by Seth Schiesel that compares Shigeru Miyamoto to Walt Disney.

When Time Magazine asked its readership who they choose as Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People Of The Year , Miyamoto ranked in ninth place on list. I believe he should have at least been in second place with a score of 129,573 votes (at least higher than Keifer Sutherland) but, then again…

by Lucy Newman on May 31, 2008 at 11:59 PM

Concerns about children playing with Wii's grow

According to SignonSanDiego.com there’s a growing concern about children learning unpleasant behaviors through game addiction and warns that parents should pay attention to what their child is playing even more, especially the Nintendo Wii.

Grant it, the Nintendo Wii is so easy that even my cat, Maki, can figure out how to play with it. But I’m not quite sure why a Wii system should a cause for an alarm. When I read this article by Jennifer Davies, a Union-Tribune staff writer, Davies focused on a family with three toddlers ranging from 18-months old to a five year old playing Wii-Tennis…
