Sam’s Club’s 2008 Black Friday ad possibly “doctored”
This past week several sites, including Gamertell, reported that Sam’s Club was offering a rather incredible Wii bundle deal for Black Friday (November 28, 2008, aka the day after Thanksgiving). Unfortunately, the price indicated in the scan of the print ad was incorrect.
According to a cease and desist request sent by Baker Hostetler LLP to Gamertell and many other outlets, the following line was requested to replace the image:
“The Sam’s Club advertisement included unauthorized changes that reflected inaccurate pricing information.“
A representative from Baker Hostetler indicated to Gamertell’s parent company, Dabbledoo Media, that…

Price: $129.95
System(s): Blu-ray (and DVD)
Release Date: October 14, 2008

Rating: “Restricted” for sci-fi violence, language and sexuality; “PG-13” for sci-fi violence and language.
Pros: High-def goodness, lots of extra content and amazing transfer. Includes iPod/Windows Media version of The Matrix.
Cons: It’s so clear some character in CG fights scenes look extra rubbery. The price. Dupe of the 2003 collection.
Overall Score: Two thumbs up; 90/100; A-; * * * * out of five.
The Ultimate Matrix Collection will quite simply amplify your feelings about The Matrix movies.
If you love them, you’ll enjoy them even more and happily gorge yourself on the multitude of extra content. If you hated them, you’ll now be able to pinpoint the tiniest flaws and laugh at them in glorious high-def…
Gamertell Review: Peak’s Starpex guitar controller for PS3, PS2

Product: Peak’s Starpex wireless guitar controller
Systems: PS2, PS3
Price: $189.99
Rating: Two thumbs up; 98/100; A; * * * * 1/2 out of five.
Pros: Feels great, works perfectly and looks amazing. Easy to connect and great action on the buttons.
Cons: A little pricey and could use a better neck strap.
Overall: The perfect gift for a Guitar Hero or Rock Band fanatic. If you want to feel even more like a real virtual video game rock star, this is the guitar controller to own.
Screw those mamby pamby plastic guitar controllers with wood grain stickers. Those are for wimps and wussies.
Peak has released the first full size, wood body guitar game controller. It’s essentially a real electric guitar (ever touch one of those?) with the electric components swapped for plastic controller parts.
It looks great, feels great and plays great, making it one truly ass-kicking game controller…

Dell’s November 2008 catalog features XPS 630 gaming rigs and Nintendo games (!?)

While in a scantastic mood, looking for holiday deals in various mailings, I noticed something rather curious in the November Dell catalog I received in the mail. It includes a page of video games. And not PC games.
Yes, Dell, the company known for making laptops, desktop computers, monitors, printers and PC accessories (at least, that’s what the title bar of the company’s web site reads), has an entire page dedicated to Nintendo games…

Target’s $50 digital camera gift card

When I shop at Target, the first place I now look is the gift card rack.
After the Speed Racer USB thumb drive gift card and the three cool game console cards, can you really blame me? Snagging freebies in the form of fat, plastic cards is my idea of good time inexpensive collecting fun.
This year’s special holiday gift card at Target is a mini digital camera. Yep, a gift card that doubles as a pocket-sized digital camera. Unlike previous cool cards, this one ain’t free. It’s a $50 card, so you have to…
Hallmark’s Christmas 2008 Pac-Man arcade cabinet ornament
Last year (2007), Hallmark released the Player 1 Christmas ornament, which was a pretty cool mini game controller with sound effects.
This year (2008), Hallmark is again releasing a game-themed ornament, reaching a little further back in time and producing a mini Pac-Man arcade machine complete with sound effects. The ornament, which stands approximately 4.5 in. tall, retails for $18.50, is battery operated (batteries included), lights up and plays classic Pac-Man sounds. Wakka-wakka!
The cabinet is…
2Bits: E3 - Open, Closed or Who Really Cares?
Welcome to the latest installment of Gamertell’s 2Bits, where writers debate opposing sides of video game issues.
For this round, Gamertell writers ponder the Entertainment Electronics Expo (aka E3) and whether or not it should be an industry-only event or open its doors to the public.
While most debates have two sides, we’re adding a third for your reading pleasure because, let’s face, some people simply don’t care if E3 is open to the public or not. Sure, we should probably call it “3Bits” this week but, hey, who ever said we have to follow the rules?
E3 - Open, Closed or Who Really Cares
- E3 should open its doors, let the people flow
- Keep those E3 doors closed
- It doesn’t matter whether E3 goes public or not
