Square Enix posts jobs for future El Segundo studio
At the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, many Japanese developers admitted that western game development was beginning to surpass that of eastern development.
So what do you do if you can’t beat ‘em? Hire ‘em.
It seems that’s exactly what Square Enix plans to do according to Gamasutra. The developer posted a listing for programmers, product managers and pretty much every position you can think of for a planned studio in El Segundo, CA. The studio will be working on…
Rep reveals more info about Club Nintendo for North America
North American Nintendo fans got a real treat last month when Nintendo announced that they would finally be bringing over what the rest of the world already got to enjoy, Club Nintendo.
The Club allows customers to gain rewards for purchasing Nintendo products. In return for spending real world cash, club members will gain points or stars to redeem for actual items or even Wii and (soon) DS points.
Unfortunately, the initial announcement left us a little dry on the details, so during an interview with Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo’s executive VP of sales and marketing, MTV Multiplayer decided to dig a little further into the upcoming program’s details. Here’s what they uncovered…
Battlefield Heroes closes beta, retreats until 2009
All of you lucky beta soldiers that were recruited to participate in the engagement of bug scouting and reporting, please report to the front office to be relieved of duty. That’s right kids, as of 6 p.m. CET, November 14, 2008, the free-to-play shooter being published by Electronics Arts and developed by Digital Illusions have shut down their closed beta to “focus on polishing up the backend…“
WTF: Dance Dance Revolution: The Musical with “barely-clothed young actors and buckets of free beer”
An interesting report from GameCulture informs us that the next adaptation of video games in the mainstream will be through - gasp - musicals.
Wait, do musicals count as “mainstream?“
The point is somebody has taken the liberty to bring a the idea of video games to the stage, though it’s probably not the game you would expect it be (sorry fanboys of alien shooters and twisted plots involving Metal Gear). The game chosen is Konami’s rhythm game, Dance Dance Revolution.

PS3 controller keypad coming December 2008
According to Joystiq, Sony’s VP of Sales, Ian Jackson, has announced that the previously delayed keypad for SIXAXIS controllers will be arriving during the first week of December 2008.
Sure, you could just use a USB keyboard, a Bluetooth headset or just tap out those letters one by one on the SIXAXIS controller but then you wouldn’t get the luxury of paying…
Nominees for Spike TV’s Video Game Awards announced
Another year and another Video Game Awards show. Better known as SpikeTV’s VGAs, this will be the sixth year for the show.
Love it or loath it the show will go on in full spectacle that will include a performance by rapper turned-video game character, 50 Cent, and a “Gamer God” award for Will Wright.
The list this year looks fairly promising without too much of one game in your face like last year’s seven nominations for a certain alien-shooting game and a game about an undersea dystopia.

Yeah Right: Blizzard swears Starcraft II trilogy not an attempt to “stretch it out and milk it”

So how did you feel about the announcement Blizzard made regarding their upcoming sequel to the decade old and still selling RTS game, Starcraft II, would be split up into three games, or at least one game and two expansions? Did you not care? Are you one of those players that only cares for the multiplayer experience? What about those that do enjoy Starcraft’s story? What was the first thing you thought about? My money (no pun intended) is that you thought Blizzard was at it again with a new scheme to nickel and dime players. Well, Blizzard COO, Paul Sams, begs to differ and speaking with Videogamer.com makes his point clear (or at least tries)...
Lionhead teases Fable 2 announcement

Did you finish Fable 2 yet? Did you manage to sneak your way passed the game’s life ruining bugs and glitches? I managed to finish it twice with only one character stuck in infinite turmoil thanks to the “Abbot glitch”. But if you did manage to finish it, then a recent tease on the Lionhead blog should tickle your curiosity as it has ours…
