by Jason Townsend-Rogers on Nov 16, 2008 at 03:19 PM

The company has announced that it will be conducting a sweepstakes that will reward prospective winners with Microsoft Points that can be used towards Xbox Live Marketplace purchases. The grand prize winner will obtain 500,000 points (US$6,247.50 value).

The Killers to debut in Rock Band’s Music Store

by Jason Townsend-Rogers on Nov 16, 2008 at 12:50 PM

the killers looking killer as usualWhile I am fully aware that Rock Band and Guitar Hero are each separate games, the music selections that each title offers make me wonder whether or not they should just cease the competition and join forces to release a singular musical instrument-based game.

Yesterday, Activision announced that The Killers would be releasing their musical wares onto Guitar Hero World Tour’s musical store as downloadable content on Tuesday, November 25, 2008.  Not content to be left out of this party, MTV made it known that Rock Band would be receiving music from this group as well, on the very same day.

The songs that will be

Bill O’Reilly complains about video games, Heidi Klum

by Jason Townsend-Rogers on Nov 16, 2008 at 11:42 AM

Bill O'Reilly in one of his off-color momentsBill O’Reilly is really something.

Despite the fact that video games and technology have advanced to the point where they have achieved mainstream acceptance in society, he still finds reason to complain about them. His latest victim this time is Guitar Hero, one that hasn’t led to any violence or depravity.

According to Gamepolitics, O’Reilly took issue with a specific advertisement promoting Guitar Hero World Tour. It features Heidi Klum stripping down to lingerie while trying to enjoy some “old-time rock and roll.” His problem with the commercial, as noted in his broadcast, was the fact that “children could be seeing this broadcast,” and that they should…

Midway to perform fatalities on its staff after major title releases

by Jason Townsend-Rogers on Nov 15, 2008 at 12:29 PM

midway logoI sure hope Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is a good game.

Actually, I hope it is a great game not only because I consider myself a fan of the series but because it may be the only way in which Midway can pull itself out of the proverbial fire.

The company has been struggling of late to the point where it has had to go through some extreme measures just to complete one of its high-profile games. These struggles have resulted in staff members being handed pink slips in its Austin, TX (USA), studio.

Sadly, it’s looking like more…

Gears of War 2

Now that the second Gears of War adventure has garnered stellar reviews, it is a foregone conclusion that gamers will do whatever is necessary to obtain a copy, if only so they can figure out who is the best player among them. Of course, it’s not always easy to know the best place to acquire a game.

While Circuit City may be on the decline, they have still found a way to make themselves relevant in the gaming market. According to 1UP, gamers who preorder the game will receive a free 1600 Microsoft Point card…

Nintendo to double Wii shipments for the holidays

by Jason Townsend-Rogers on Oct 29, 2008 at 02:12 PM

The Nintendo Wii: great to play, hard to find.Nintendo’s Wii really is something; despite the fact that its technological specs are meek compared to what is offered by its competitors, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, the Wii continues to distance itself from them in both sales numbers and in popularity. Apparently, Nintendo had the right idea when they decided to reach out to individuals who had never used a controller in their life, rather than continually appeal to the hardcore crowd.

This popularity has made the system increasingly hard to find as of late, a phenomenon that has intensified with each successive holiday season that they system has been made available. However, Reggie Fils-Amie, Nintendo’s president, made it clear in an LA Times interview that consumers will have better luck locating a Wii this holiday season, as he announced his plans to increase the system’s manufacturing rate from 1.6 million to 2.4 million units in order to meet holiday demand…

2Bits: E3 should open its doors, let the people flow

by Jason Townsend-Rogers on Oct 28, 2008 at 09:01 AM

E3 2008 was an unmitigated disaster.

This singular sentence summed up the reaction that gamers felt towards this version of the long-running video-game based trade show. Once an event celebrated as much for its extravagance as its large variety of video games on display, the 2008 version of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, now known as the E3 Media & Business Summit, was a shadow of its former self, stripped of its style and verve which resulted in its popularity with gamers plummeting faster than the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The reason E3 lost its luster can be attributed to…

by Jason Townsend-Rogers on Oct 26, 2008 at 10:03 PM

grand theft auto IV logoThanks to Sony’s firmware update 2.41, however, Playstation 3 owners will also have the opportunity to earn ‘achievements’ akin to their 360 brethren.  Rockstar announced that 51 trophies will be patched into the game via this firmware update, which will allow it to have a singular achievement not available in the 360 version of the game…
