Artist, Aspen founder, Witchblade creator Michael Turner dies
![]()
Friday, June, 27, 2008, comic artist Michael Turner died in Santa Monica, CA, after an eight year battle with cancer.
While Michael Turner might not be as well known as Stan Lee or Todd McFarlane, to fans and those within the industry, Michael Turner was an icon who helped redefine the comic industry in the mid 1990s. It was his fighting spirit and dedication to his fans that set him apart from many of his peers.

First GTA IV Patches released
![]()
Since its launch, Grand Theft Auto IV has shattered all previously held records for sales, and it has become the new king of Xbox Live, but there have been a few bumps in the road that gamers have voiced their concerns about. Thankfully, Rockstar has released the first patch updates for GTA IV’s online game play.
All updates should be automatic the next time you log online, either for the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3.
IGN posted the list of updates:
Battlefield series looking to grow
![]()
Today (June, 24, 2008), Battlefield: Bad Company comes out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, making it the 12th title in the series to date, with Battlefield: Heroes still due to be released for the PC this summer.
According to IGN, executive producer Ben Cousens spoke about the game at Paris GDC this week:
“Since the start of this year I’ve been working as executive producer for the entire Battlefield franchise - we’ve got five titles in development at the moment, which is probably more than you expect.“
Call of Duty going back to WWII with World at War
![]()
After ten million units sold in just seven months after the November, 2007 release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Activision is hoping that gamers are ready to strap their combat boots back on and return once again to the theater of war, but which theaters? Well apparently, World War Two hasn’t quite been won yet.
Call of Duty: World at War will return the franchise back to the Second World War roots, but this time we’ll get to jump from the Atlantic theater and take the fight to the Japanese on the Pacific side of the war.
Gamertell Review: Mass Effect for PC
Title: Mass Effect
Price: $49.99
System(s): PC (Xbox 360)
Release Date: May, 28, 2007
Publisher (Developer): Microsoft (BioWare)
ESRB Rating: Mature for Blood, Language, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Violence
Pros: Great storyline, interactive dialogue, good character customization, great graphics, deep game play, fixed console technical issues, great interface
Cons: Too short, game play a bit slow, repeating locations, no expansion episode
Overall Score: Two Thumbs Up, 98/100, A, * * * * 1/2 Stars
With most, if not all of the major technical issues now resolved, Mass Effect for the PC is a more enjoyable experience than its Xbox 360 counterpart. While there hasn’t been much new added to the general game content, PC gamers who are new to the series will certainly want to see what last year’s hype was all about.

Gamertell Review: Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360
Title: Grand Theft Aufo IV
Price: $59.99
System(s): Xbox 360, PS3
Release Date: April, 28, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar)
Rating: “Mature” for blood, intense violence, partial nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, use of alcohol and use of drugs.
Pros: Great game play, great narrative story, great mechanics, great online, long game play length, great city details and nearly bug-free.
Cons: The game ends eventually, not as funny as past titles, removal of past additions, some system crashes, not enough of the city is used.
Overall Score: Two Thumbs Up, 95/100, A , * * * * 1/2 out of five
With every little bump or minor complaint I’ve had with this game, it doesn’t in the slightest way detract from the overall experience.
With an online element that really allows players to experiment and create their own modes of game play GTA IV has more under its hood then any five games. GTA IV may be an evolution that doesn’t add much that we haven’t already seen in previous titles but it certainly takes everything we’ve played before and perfects it into a truly epic experience not seen since GTA III.

Punisher: War Zone movie teaser trailer released
The first teaser trailer for Marvel’s next film, Punisher: War Zone, was released last week.
From the looks of this first glimpse at the third Punisher film, due to hit theaters December 2, 2008, this Punisher just might be the film adaption that fans have been hoping to see.
Right from the start, the teaser trailer (click through to watch) shows that War Zone (titled from the classic Punisher: War Zone comics) is darker, meaner and filled with more
Gamertell Review: The Incredible Hulk movie
Title: The Incredible Hulk
Release Date: June, 13, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Marvel Films, Universal Studios
Rating: PG-13
Pros: Good acting, plenty of action, lots of Marvel fan boy easter eggs, great music, solid story, Hulk effects good
Cons: General effects are okay, has some missing plot points, lacks enough dialogue
Overall Score: One thumb up, one sideways; 80/100; B-; * * * our of five
This Hulk film isn’t a sequel to the 2003 Ang Lee adaption but is instead a completely new start for the franchise, although it doesn’t completely ignore the 2003 film. In this latest version, it is stated that Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) has been the Hulk for five years and that he is on the run in South America, which is where the 2003 film left off.
If anything, this new film really has more in common with the comic book and the classic ‘70s television series then anything else…
Gamertell Review: Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures for Xbox 360
Title: Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
System(s): Xbox 360 (PS3, Wii, PS2, DS, PSP, PC)
Release Date: June 3, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Lucas Arts (Traveller’s Tales)
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Pros: Fun game play, nice graphics, great sound, funny, classic Lego adventure, lots of unlockables, plenty of replay value
Cons: Some difficult puzzles and jumps, no real change in basic game play, too short and doesn’t include anything from the new movie
Overall Score: Two Thumbs Up, 90/100, A-, * * * * out of five
Lego Indy probably isn’t going to win any Game of the Year awards, nor will it be the most memorable of the Lego games, but it was still a joyful ride. It’s hard to find any serious faults and if you like collecting lots of hidden items and movie memorabilia, then you’ll have a lot of fun exploring every level. Fans young and old of Indiana Jones and casual gamers will certainly enjoy this game.
