First Ubisoft brought us Imagine, now it brings Ener-G
Ubisoft has realized what an ignored segment teenage girl gamers are, and they are ready to fill that game void. They started with the Imagine line of games, which were essentially a series of simulation games. Now they have created Ener-G, a line of sports games for girls. So far three games in the line, all DS titles, have been announced, Ener-G Dance Squad, Ener-G Gym Rockets and Ener-G Horse Riders. All three will be released October 2008.
Ener-G Dance Squad makes players choreographers. They are placed in Laura’s shoes, a girl who is part of a modern dance squad. Players then perform alone or with a group, in a Story or Challenge Mode, dance against 12 other computer players and get items to dress up in. The music in the game will fall into the R&B, Techno, Disco, Pop, Classical and Tribal genres.
E3 parties on with Game Party 2
Midway’s busy releasing loads of E3 information on games today. The latest press release reveals additional information on its Wii family fun game Game Party 2. The title will have four player multiplayer in all 11 games, the ability to create a profile for each player, the ability to create avatars to represent players and the ability to unlock new in-game items by receiving tickets for playing well.
The press release states Game Party 2 will be out in October 2008, though Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Midway-19204-Game-Party-2/dp/B0018RWMRS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1216057396&sr=8-1 is still listing it as in-stock on September 30, 2008. It will cost $29.99. The ESRB rating is still pending, but it will likely be rated “Everyone” like its predecessor, Game Party.
Midway’s Blitz II brutally barrels through E3
Midway has released new information on its brutal Xbox 360 and PS3 football game Blitz: The League II for E3 2008. The game is not only going to feature popular aspects from the original game, like late hits and Lawrence Taylor as Quentin Sands, but also loads of new content guaranteed to make Blitz II the most violent football game you can buy.
Most of Blitz: The League II‘s new additions are designed to make the game more brutal and dramatic than ever before. First up are the precision-aim tackles, which allow players to hit certain areas of opponents’ bodies to do more damage and inflict injuries. The next is the ability to start Clash mode by pushing one button, then doing more damage to opponents. There are also going to be touchdown dances, a Campaign Mode story by Peter Egan from ESPN’s Playmakers along with the ability to play online and download new material via the Playstation Network and Xbox Live.
Auction Watch: Atari 2600 with 16 classic games
Shop Goodwill has an auction today that represents classic gaming at it’s best. At 8:50AM PST, Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana put an Atari 2600 with all of the necessary cables and accoutrements. The bidding started at $5.00, and since there’s only been one bidder, it is still at $5 (at 7:36 PM CST June 30, 2008).
The highlight of the auction is the collection of 16 games which come with the system. Pretty much every game is an amazing title. So if you bid, you’ll also be getting Asteroids, Centipede, Chopper Command, Crackpots, Defender, Grandprix, Joust, Outlaw, Pac Man, Pitfall, Pitfall II, Robot Tank, Space Invaders, Target Fun, Q*Bert and Yars’ Revenge.
Project Powder in closed beta, scheduled for August release
Project Powder is a free massive multiplayer online (MMO) snowboarding game still in the closed beta phase, but that hasn’t stopped Outspark from announcing that it will be released commercially worldwide in August, 2008. Right now the closed beta phase is in effect until July 8, 2008, so players can help the developers out by testing and spotting any potential problems. The closed beta participants are also competing for some nifty prizes, so you may want to try signing up.
In Project Powder, players create a snowboarding avatar, and then head out to snowboard and perform tricks on one of 33 different courses. If you’re a beginner, you can play on your own until you figure out the tricks. If you think you’re pretty good, then you can challenge other players.
Auction Watch: Original working NES with 48 games
It’s a good week for Nintendo products at Shop Goodwill. A lot today which has just come up on the site includes a working NES with the original box and package in nearly perfect condition. If that wasn’t enough, the system also comes with an extra controller, a light gun, the original manuals and 48 games.
The item is from the Chattanooga Goodwill Industries, in Tennessee. It was originally listed for $4.00 this morning (June 26, 2008), but has since risen to $46.00 (2:29pm CST June 26, 2008). That still isn’t too bad - it’s not even a dollar a game. The auction ends July 7, 2008.
The games included according to the listing are as follows…
Celtics star named NBA 2K9 cover athlete
Boston fans, take note - Celtics forward Kevin Garnett will grace the cover of NBA 2K9. Destructoid reported that Garnett himself is quite enthusiastic about the game. From the post:
“It’s the game I play, the game my friends play, and the game anyone in the league serious about videogames plays. NBA 2K is the real deal, and until 2K Sports find a way to plant an elbow in your chest, it’s the closest thing to actually being there on the court. I can’t tell you how pumped I am to be on the cover of NBA 2K9 – it’s a real honor. Now watch out! Because this fall 2K Sports and I are going to deliver the best basketball video game out there, period.”
The game will be out this fall on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PS2. As a Boston girl, I can’t help but be excited for Garnett and the Celtics as they take on the Lakers in the playoffs, NBA Live simulations claiming a Boston loss be damned.

Professors concerned with children playing Wii
According to SignonSanDiego.com there’s a growing concern about children learning unpleasant behaviors through game addiction and warns that parents should pay attention to what their child is playing even more, especially the Nintendo Wii.
Grant it, the Nintendo Wii is so easy that even my cat, Maki, can figure out how to play with it. But I’m not quite sure why a Wii system should a cause for an alarm. When I read this article by Jennifer Davies, a Union-Tribune staff writer, Davies focused on a family with three toddlers ranging from 18-months old to a five year old playing Wii-Tennis…
