Some Atheists cranky about Spore’s religion creation feature

by Jeremy Hill on Aug 13, 2008 at 02:43 PM

Will Wright
Will Wright’s latest project Spore puts players in control of their own destiny by controlling a lot of the aspects that help make up life. Starting as a single-cell organism, your choices help determine the type of creature you will become. From there it’s a matter of building up a civilization which include traditions, customs and religion.

Wright had a feeling that the religion creation mechanic in Spore might stir up some controversy from various religious groups but ironically enough, it was a segment of Atheists that had a problem with it…

Kill time with Death Race on mobile phones

by Jeremy Hill on Aug 10, 2008 at 11:16 AM

Death Race Mustang

I don’t know about you but when I’m driving I often wonder what my car would look like with a .50 caliber Gatling gun sticking out from my hood. Due to a few pesky laws, that fantasy will only live in my mind. However, we can all live out our fantasies of non-consequential vehicular combat when Death Race flies into theaters on August 22, 2008. Until then Gameloft has taken up the rights to publish a game based on Death Race for mobile phones which will be available on all major carriers sometime in August 2008.

Death Race is a remake of the 1975 film Death Race 2000. It takes place in a…

by Mark Rollins on Aug 4, 2008 at 03:04 PM

Zeemote JS1

However, Sony Ericsson believes that gamers can have just as much fun playing video games on their phone as they can at home.  The company has partnered with Zeemote to create the Zeemote JS1 Controller, a Nunchuk-like controller for mobile phone games.

Zeemote originally promised a controller similar to the motion-controlled Nunchuk for the Wii and, while they have not delivered on the motion sensitive aspect, the JS1 is completely wireless.  It syncs via Bluetooth to a very specific phone, the 3G W760i Walkman..

Comic Con 2008: Recap of Will Wright’s keynote address

by Jeremy Hill on Jul 27, 2008 at 02:21 PM

Will Wright Keynote

Comic-Con 2008 started off (July 24, 2008) with a bang as Will Wright took to the podium to deliver his keynote. Wright is the mastermind behind The Sims games and the soon to be released Spore.

During his speech, Wright talked a lot about what personally interests him. Given the nature of Spore there’s no surprise he’s into such things as aliens and the novel/film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Apparently he felt right at home with his fellow otaku offering detailed insights on why videogames should be considered art. Wright sees newer kinds of media to be the scorn of older media forms. They all take on a process that eventually ends up as being a way for one to artistically express oneself. In a way, that is what he was gunning for with Spore.

Click through for the highlights from Will Wright’s keynote speech…

LemonQuest presents Circulate Prologue for iPhone, iPod Touch

by Jeremy Hill on Jul 23, 2008 at 07:08 PM

Circulate PrologueThere is no shortage of games coming down the pipeline for Apple’s brand of handheld devices. One of the latest games to hit the App Store is from LemonQuest called Circulate Prologue. That “prologue” at the end of the title is meant to indicate that the game is not yet complete. It’s more of a beta version that gives just a taste of what the complete game will offer. Still it’s not a bad purchase for only .99 cents.

Circulate Prologue takes advantage of the…

by PJ Hruschak on Jul 22, 2008 at 10:12 PM

gamertell spore box artMaxis has released images of the official box art for Spore, hoping to further excite fans.

Well, there it is. Does it get you revved up for the game? Yeah, me neither.

I’m not sure this is the best art to reflect the nature of the game. It doesn’t quite scream, “Amazing innovative Will Wright sim game based on evolution we’ve been waiting for years to play!” Instead, it seems to say, “Hey kids, play this game. It have colorful aminals.”

At least you can get the ESRB rating ("Everyone 10+") from it and that it’s…
