Gamecock’s PAX 2008 lineup

by Jenni Lada on Aug 28, 2008 at 03:31 PM

Gamecock Media Group logoGamecock has also announced a list of the five games it will be displaying at Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) 2008, which runs from August 29-31, 2008. It has a pretty well rounded display set up, featuring games for the Xbox 360, DS, Wii and PC. So only Sony system owners will feel left out if they drop by Gamecock’s booth. (Don’t worry Sony fans! Gamecock is working on PS3 versions of some of the games displayed at PAX 2008.)

While Gamecock has an admirable game display set up, you won’t be able to actually play all of the titles - one (Velvet Assassin) will only shown in presentations by Replay Studios developers. Still, with four games to enjoy, you’ll want to stop by and play a demo or two.

The games appear at the event are as follows…

Thrustmaster’s Dual Trigger Gun NW a revolutionary Wii gun frame

by Mark Rollins on Aug 27, 2008 at 09:31 AM

Thrustmaster Dual Trigger Gun
Some of you might remember a few weeks ago when I covered the ezShot from ezGear, a lightweight gun frame designed for the WiiMote that I didn’t recommend. Now for something a bit more positive: The Dual Trigger Gun NW by Thrustmaster is a step in the right direction for Wii gun frames.

The Dual Trigger Gun is exactly what the name implies - a gun frame with two triggers.  The good news is that one trigger is…

Taito reacts to Stanley’s 9/11 Invader Exhibit, threatens legal action

by Jenni Lada on Aug 25, 2008 at 12:45 PM

Space Invaders screenshotDuring the 2008 Leipzig Games Convention, which ran from August 20-24, 2008, an artist named Douglas Stanley chose to create an artistic installation called Invaders!. It was to be part of a Space Invaders: Die Jubiläumsshow! exhibit at Berlin’s Computer Spiele Museum, in honor of Space Invader’s 30th anniversary. Stanley’s Invaders! involved Space Invader aliens destroying New York’s World Trade Center Twin Towers, from the 9/11 terrorist attack, with people able to interact with the exhibit by destroying the aliens and protecting the towers.

The game caused quite an outcry from Americans, especially those directly affected by 9/11, and Taito, the creators of Space Invaders. Upon hearing of Stanley’s Invaders! exhibit, which Taito was not informed of, Taito immediately stated that it was going to end the installation and its unauthorized use of Space Invaders content. The company also stated that it would be willing to take legal action against Stanlet and the Leipzig Games Convention exhibitor which allowed the “Invaders!” exhibit to run…

Sega announces House of Dead: Overkill as Wii exclusive

by Kirk Hiner on Aug 20, 2008 at 05:16 PM

House of the Dead: OverkillWii gamers who find themselves defending the system as a legitimate platform for hardcore gamers have been given some new ammunition (of course, they may want to save that ammunition for the zombies). Sega has announced The House of Dead: Overkill will be coming to the Wii early 2009. The game is being developed by Headstrong Games (formerly Kuju of Battalion Wars 1 and 2) and is being built from the ground up specifically for the Wii platform.

Using the Wii remote (as opposed to the light-gun approach of the The House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return port), the game will be presented in a pulp action-style design. This is made quite clear in the trailer which was instantly one of the best game trailers I have ever seen. Click through to check it out…

Ghost Recon: Prophecy vs. unlucky coincidence

by Jonathan Gronli on Aug 16, 2008 at 10:56 PM

Ghost Recon
In 2001 Tom Clancy put his name to an incredible tactical squad-based first-person shooter called Ghost Recon, a franchise that contains almost prophetic parallels with current events.

In the original Ghost Recon game, set in 2008, Russia is taken over by ultra-nationalists who want to rebuild the might of the former Soviet Union by re-acquiring several Eastern European states. The reasoning for the Russian spread in the game could just be to regain the former territory of the Soviet Union or to do as Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told Telegraph when he said he would “protect the lives and dignity of Russian citizens wherever they are located.” Even more coincidental, the game opens in the former-Soviet state of Georgia…
