Opinion: Only certain kinds of video games can inspire great movies
Fans have a love-hate relationship with movie adaptations of popular video games. For every successful transition, for example Silent Hill, there’s an In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale or Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Chances are, the movie isn’t going to live up to the game. There’s a pattern though, found among the more successful video game movie adaptations. Look at the Resident Evil, Tomb Raider or Silent Hill movies.…

It’s a rather sedate update this week, with several water-based games and the excellent Fantasy Zone II.

Opinion: Releasing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the PS2 a bad idea
Some people might agree with the console spread from Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Here’s a suggestion that might work better and wouldn’t cut out portions of the fanbase.
Opinion: Fable 2 on the PC is a smart business decision
Money’s tight. Even if people’s jobs are secure, they’re still cutting back. And then there are those who have been the casualties of cut backs. People aren’t going to be thinking about spending $200, $300 or $400 on a new console bundle, no matter how much they need an escape.… Continue Reading »
A few games we want to see remade in HD
Nostalgia can go a long way these days. We would gladly hand over money to play the same game we enjoyed more than ten years ago if we don’t own a physical copy. Some companies have taken it a step further and have or will remake games with a glossy… Continue Reading »
Nintendo Downloads for June 15, 2009
It’s another insanely eclectic week on Nintendo’s downloadable game services. WiiWare is boasting a new Sega game, fighting kitchen appliances and rainbow islands, DSiWare has your ripoff clock and calculator needs covered, and the excellent Arcade version of Space Harrier wraps up the pickings. Personally, I’m all for the toaster,… Continue Reading »
Opinion: How Nintendo won E3 2009
At E3 2009, Microsoft showed us the future of gaming with Project Natal. Nintendo addressed the hardcore Nintendo fan’s concerns and Sony came out swinging with stuff all across the board. If you are looking for a clear cut “winner,” however, I think you have to look at Nintendo. While… Continue Reading »
Hidden gems of E3 2009
By now, we all know the big games of E3 2009 - New Super Mario Bros. Wii, BioShock 2, Mass Effect 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, God of War III, and oh yeah, that game with the Beatles. But there were plenty of under-the-radar surprises at this year’s… Continue Reading »
E3 2009: The flops, weaks spots and not-so-hots
E3 2009 was pretty successful. We saw some interesting games, a new PSP incarnation and quite a few extra peripherals. For the most part, a very productive couple of days. But, there were a few stains upon an otherwise spotless event. Yes, I’m talking about the flops. The moments when… Continue Reading »
Gamertell Review: Punch-Out!! for Wii
Little Mac is back, only this time he has more depth and is not fighting Mike Tyson. I’m of course talking about the new Punch-Out game from Nintendo, for the Wii. As Little Mac, you have to box your way through four competitors, each ranging in difficulty. If you beat… Continue Reading »
Gamertell Review: Space Ace for iPhone, iPod Touch
If you were alive and plunking quarters in the early 1980s, then you completely understand laserdisc games. They were the most expensive arcade games of the time, charging a dollar or more when the next priciest game was 50 cents or less. And there was always a line at the… Continue Reading »
Opinion: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King DLC due for a price-cut
Just recently, I began playing Square Enix’s WiiWare game Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King. Yes, I know, I’m late to the party. Pretend my invitation got lost in the mail. (I was waiting for Wii Points cards to go on sale.) I was fairly sure I’d… Continue Reading »
E3 2009: Hands on with Wii Sports Resort
