Testing tracks for Tune Troopers

by Jenni Lada on Jul 11, 2008 at 08:24 PM

Song Summoner The Unsung Heroes screen shot Hip-O-DromeSquare Enix’s recent iPod release, Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes requires a lot of patience. Not because it is a strategic RPG, mind you, but because you’ll have to sift through quite a few songs in the Hip-O-Drome before you find some truly worthy Tune Troopers that can be used in battle.

I spent over an hour yesterday, just testing tracks in the game and seeing what would come from them. At one point, I abandoned logical assessment (15 minutes in), and decided to just have fun with it. The result was a selection of popular, video game related and obscure tracks being plugged in to see what came out. Would a “One Winged Angel” trooper trump an “Aerith’s Theme?” How would a classic track, like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” fare against a top 10 pop hit like “Bleeding Love?” Would other Square Enix songs, or other video game songs in general, create stronger warriors? I tested it so you don’t have to.

Since the creation guidelines aren’t clear yet, I’m not sure if others will get the same results. So I’m including all the information about the tracks I plugged in, in case song length, my rating of the song or how I sorted it effects the resulting Tune Trooper.

Four quick tips for sturdy Tune Troopers in Song Summoner for iPod

by Jenni Lada on Jul 11, 2008 at 10:22 AM

Song Summoner The Unsung Heroes screen shot title screenI’ve owned Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes for less than a day and already I am developing an unhealthy obsession for the Square Enix’s strategic RPG created exclusively for the iPod.

This isn’t enough time to craft a full-on review (that will come in a day or two) but an hour crafting Tune Troopers and a few hours of playing have provided me with a rudimentary education. I’ve learned a few tricks while playing which have been helpful in crafting a solid foundation for troop formation.

So the following are a few tricks to help you in creating your first few Tune Troopers and earning “S” ranks for your first battles…

Halo 3 Marathon Man achievement transcripts

by Sam Cotts on Jul 8, 2008 at 10:07 AM

gamertell marathon man achievementAccording to our traffic reports, you, our valued readers, crave more data on the Halo 3 “Marathon Man” achievement. I will not lie, this warms my heart. It means that there are new players still trickling into the game, a phenomenon I heartily doubted would occur. At the very least, it means that old players who remained firmly entrenched in the multiplayer milieu, that denigrating digital pit of infamy, are at least taking a look at the campaign mode.

So, for your reading pleasure, I hereby confer upon you a series of posts which contain transcripts of these enigmatic forerunner structures taken directly from the game, along with my humble analysis of each. For the locations of these back story tidbits, refer to the excellent post by our very own Phil Madison via our not so very own GamesRadar. Enjoy!

Building a legend on Facebook with Perfect Warrior

by Jenni Lada on Jun 28, 2008 at 02:13 PM

The standard female avatar art for Perfect WarriorFacebook is home to many addictive, user created applications and games, and Perfect Warrior is one of them. Perfect Warrior is something of a text-based, massive multiplayer online game. Once players sign up, they can battle monsters, join alliances, equip items, strengthen weapons with runes, go on monster hunts and strive to become a legend.

Perfect Warrior requires quite a bit of dedication and time to succeed. Your character has three attributes - strength, constitution and dexterity. Defeating monsters earns you skill points which you can use to strengthen these attributes. The best way to succeed is to plot out what kind of character you want. You may want a strong and aggressive warrior who can take enemies out in one hit. Or perhaps a tank who can take repeated hits without falling is more your style. Of course a lightning fast opponent who can dodge attacks and deal frequent criticals is also a very viable option.

Etrian Odyssey II parties with potential

by Jenni Lada on Jun 24, 2008 at 04:46 PM

a screen shot from Etrian Odyssey IIEtrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard gives fans of the original Etrian Odyssey exactly what they want - more. More mapping tools, more character classes, more enemies, more quests, more equipment - you get the idea.

In doing so, some things were also altered. Classes from Etrian Odyssey may not have the same skills or abilities in Etrian Odyssey II, forcing players to rethink parties that may have worked in the previous entry. So after a bit of research and experimentation, Gamertell came up with five potential parties that might be great for exploring the dungeon.

Nintendo DS the next alternative to smoking

by Lucy Newman on Jun 22, 2008 at 03:31 PM

Nintedo DS an alternative to smokingWe all have bad habits we’re trying to free ourselves from. Whether its drinking, speeding, or in my case caffeine and chocolate. One of the more popular vices everyone would like to see vanish is smoking. Yep, down with the nicotine sticks, no more dancing with cancer these days. But if you have friends who smoke like I do, asking them to stop will result in their telling you to ‘butt’ out or blow that defiant puff in your face.

It’s a habit that people find difficult to shake, especially if they’ve been smoking for quite a long time, rendering the nicotine patches, gums and carrot sticks useless. But in Canada, members of the Allen Carr Team - founded by anti-smoking guru Allen Carr - found a way to help smokers break their habit with the help of a Nintendo DS.

Video game cocktails by Scrollbar

by Jenni Lada on May 30, 2008 at 01:23 PM

a picture of the Scrollbar's Princess Peach drink from the official pageThe IT University of Copenhagen Scrollbar student group runs a weekly bar every Friday called Fredagbar. Since the college has a special program devoted to Media Technology and Games, it only makes sense that quite a few students are video games fans. Two of the group’s recent Fredagbars involved popular video game franchises, Super Mario (February 15, 2008) and Final Fantasy (May 9, 2008), and for each series custom cocktails were created.

Thankfully, the good students of Scrollbar realized that gaming fans around the world would be interested in the various concoctions created, Webpages were created for each event, providing a few pictures showing the Fredagbar bar area, guests (many dressed as Mario or FF characters) and drinks as well as the drinks’ recipes - complete with suggested prices. Its really helpful, as others may want to try and duplicate the experience.

Dress for success in The World Ends with You

by Jenni Lada on May 1, 2008 at 12:27 PM

Shop mode in TWEWYAfter playing The World Ends with You for a while, and stopping in the stores, you’ll notice a pattern. Certain brands will seem to favor certain characters. When you check unlocked abilities, you’ll notice that some brands will have abilities only for one character, or for one character and Neku, and ignore every one else.

Then there are the indifferent brands. When you check abilities, while dressing the character’s, you’ll see a lot of “When your partner wears this...” but never any specific character references.

Square Enix clearly had certain characters in mind when it came to clothing. So if you want to succeed in TWEWY, it’s best to follow SE’s lead. Dress your characters in the brands that suit them, and you can’t go wrong. Hopefully this guide will help get your TWEWY characters though any fashion emergency.
