Video games may help fight obesity

new console designed to help fight child obesityJust when you thought the world was turning an evil eye towards video games, accusing it of converting children into violent thugs, rotting their brains and making them fat. Consoles like the Nintendo Wii have opened up a new way for the medical field to use the games to their advantage. With games being integrated into physical therapies that can not only improve a person’s hand-eye-coordination it may just help shed some pounds in childhood obesity.

According to an article published by the UK Press Association video games that engage children in any form of physical activity “may be an effective answer to childhood obesity...”

Wii-esque budget game system V-sports hits Japan

Rumdes V-sports Wii Copycat Videogame SystemWiis can still be difficult to find, and even if you do happen to come across one, it’ll cost you upwards of $249.99 to pick up a console. Its time for the Vii 2, V-Sports. Rumdes is displaying the latest version of the Wii-copycat console that comes with a motion controller, includes Wii Sports-esque games and other titles, is available three different color schemes and runs on two AA batteries. It costs ¥7,980/$80.

While it isn’t as technologically advanced as the official system, it does offer a quite a few games for the money. V-Sports comes with 21 games. Based on images from technabob, the games included appear to be tennis, fishing, a dancing game, mini-golf, ping pong, bowling, a Cooking Mama clone, a Balloon Fight clone, darts, baseball, a Columns clone, a Tetris clone and an Alleyway clone.

Auction Watch: Promotional Offer versions of Final Fantasy and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Shop Goodwill auction Nintendo Promotional Offer NES games Legend of Zelda II The Adventure of Link and Final FantasyIf you’re a serious Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy fan, well, if you’re a fan of any major series, you’d probably love to own a special version of a game. A new auction on Shop Goodwill that just started today (August 4, 2008) is ready to accomodate you. The Goodwill Industries of the Columbia-Willamette area in Oregon have listed a lot which contains special Nintendo Promotional Offer versions of the NES games Final Fantasy and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

As of 3:18pm CST today, there have been no bids, so the starting price is only $5. Both games come with their original boxes, sleeves and instruction books. Neither game was tested though, for $5 its worth the risk. The auction ends August 11, 2008.

Many game companies, analysts disappointed with E3 2008

E3 given a thumbs down by top exhibitorsNot many attendees were impressed with this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). During an interview held Thursday, (July 17, 2008) Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s senior managing director and general manager of entertainment analysis and the development division, told MSNBC that even though many fans of long running Nintendo franchise games such as Mario, Zelda or even StarFox were upset he felt that E3 was no longer a place for those types of game.

Kirby Super Star UltraKirby was not forgotten during E3 2008. Our favorite pink eating machine will be featured in a remake of the SNES title Kirby Super Star for the Nintendo DS called Kirby Super Star Ultra. The game will be released on September 22, 2008, and will feature everything we remember in the original plus updated graphics, fully rendered cut scenes, multiplayer and some DS-influenced mini games.

Auction Watch: Sega Master System at Shop Goodwill

Sega Master System Sega Sports Pad Shop GoodwillChalk this up under things you don’t see every day - Shop Goodwill has a Sega Master System and Sega Sports Pad up for auction. The Reading, Pennsylvania Goodwill put up the listing for this console and controller today (July 14, 2008), and the auction will end July 21, 2008. There have been no bids so far, so the opening price is still at $5 (July 14, 2008 4:18pm CST).

The Sega Master System box has the console, 2 controllers, a copy of Hang-On/Safari Hunt, the light gun and all the necessary cords. the Sports Pad box has, you guessed it, the Sports Pad controller. Both items come in their original boxes with all items included, but have not been tested.
