by Jenni Lada on Aug 6, 2008 at 05:21 PM

Konami Frogger iPod Touch iPhoneKonami’s gaming classic Frogger is now available in the Apple App Store. The game has been tweaked to work on the iPhone and iPod Touch, while still preserving classic Frogger gameplay. The game is $9.99, and you’ll need the iPhone 2.0 software to play it.

Basically it is the same game as before, just with touch screen controls and updated graphics. You guide the frog from one side of the road, across the river, to the safety of the bank. If you aren’t careful - you’re roadkill.

Blue Dragon Plus coming soon to Japan

by Jenni Lada on Aug 6, 2008 at 02:34 PM

Blue Dragon Plus DSThe Japanese release date for the DS follow-up to Blue Dragon, titled Blue Dragon Plus is creeping closer. On September 4, 2008, the real-time strategic rpg will be released in Japan. So far a North American release hasn’t been announced, but since Konami released Blue Dragon in the US and the DS is the Nintendo’s golden child.

Blue Dragon Plus picks right up where the Xbox 360 rpg Blue Dragon left off. King Jibral and Zola have discovered a strange and possibly evil dragon shadow in a cube world, and Shu, Kluke, Jiro, Marumaro and Zola have to go investigate it. The game looks similar to Heroes of Mana and Final Fantasy XIII: Revenant Wings, so if you enjoyed those, you’ll probably like Blue Dragon Plus

by Jenni Lada on Aug 4, 2008 at 05:00 PM

Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble opening screen
Title: Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble!
Price: $20
System(s): PC and Mac
Release Date: July 29, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Mousechief (Mousechief)
TIGRS Rating: “Teen” for mild language, cartoon violence, suggestive themes, crass humor, alcohol reference, tobacco reference and drug reference
Pros: Innovative story, colorful characters, beautiful ambiance, intuitive controls and fun mini-games, auto save and multiple save slots.
Cons: Best played in short bursts, some boyfriends are hard to win over and new taunts can be difficult to come by.
Overall Score: Two thumbs up, 95/100, A, ****1/2 out of 5.

Dangeous High School Girls in Trouble (DHSGiT) is simply an amazing game. It is a delightful, empowering, entertaining and captivating adventure that you can play for 15 minutes or for hours. The two areas where this casual game from Mousechief really shines are the vibrant characters and the witty script, but the whole game is really just phenomenal…

The main feature of today’s Playstation Store update is PixelJunk Eden ($10) and, for an epic co-winky-dink, I figured just what the hell that game is.  Or, at least, I saw it in action and appreciate it for the sperm ovulation simulation it truly is.  Talk about abstract.  It does have some funky music, though.

Anyhow, let’s get right to the list…

Gamertell Review: Schizoid for Xbox Live

by PJ Hruschak on Aug 2, 2008 at 12:01 PM

gamertell schizoid for xbox live xbla logo

Title: Schizoid
Price: 800 Microsoft Points (US$10.00)
System(s): Xbox Live
Release Date: July 9, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Microsoft (Torpex Games)
ESRB Rating: “Everyone” for mild fantasy violence.
Pros: Fun and addictive two-player game with good particle effects and smooth controls. Single-player two-ship “Uberschizoid” mode.
Cons: Single-player CPU teammate is occasionally idiotic.
Overall Score: Two thumbs up; 91/100; A-; * * * * out of five.

Schizoid is a game of dualities. First, the name implies that it is meant for a single player (remember that “schizoid personality disorder” is antisocial behavior where the person tries to be alone) yet is most definitely a two-player game. Also, it may be a killer two-player game but it also has an amazingly fun single-player mode where you control both of the game’s avatars with one controller.

It’s hectic, it’s confusing, it’s frustrating and it’s friggin’ fun.

Important Importables: Simple Series DS games

by Jenni Lada on Aug 1, 2008 at 12:31 PM

Important Importables logo
Simple DS Series Vol. 24 The Sensha box artThe Simple Series is a staple in Japan and are a line of budget-priced games released by D3 Publisher for the Dreamcast, Game Boy Advance, DS, Wii, PSP, PS1 and PS2. The games are typically by smaller developers and all of the DS titles are bargain priced at ¥2800.

This makes them a great way for people who normally don’t import video games to give them a try (especially since the PSP and DS are region-free.) Simple DS Series Volume games for the DS usually start at $28 and older entries can be as cheap as $19. For people who have never imported before, this can be a way for people to test and see if they could play a game filled with…

Title: Major League Eating: The Game
Price: 100 Wii Points (US$10.00)
System(s): Wii (as WiiWare)
Release Date: July 14, 2008
Publisher (Developer): Mastiff (Sensory Sweep Studios)
ESRB Rating: “Everyone 10+” for crude humor.
Pros: Good utilization of the WiiMote’s motion controls, OK graphics and fairly addictive game play.
Cons: Some Wii freezing glitches and lackluster minigames.
Overall Score: One thumb up, one sideways; 86/100; B+; * * * 1/2.

Perhaps one of the oddest food related games is Major League Eating: The Game, a WiiWare release from Mastiff where you actually stuff your face as best as you can. It’s crude, it’s silly and it’s kinda fun.

Important Importables: Organizing Jump Ultimate Stars anime inspired decks

by Jenni Lada on Jul 25, 2008 at 08:43 AM

Important Importables logo
Jump Ultimate Stars boxart The DS game Jump Ultimate Stars is quite an elaborate fighting game. After all, 300 characters from 40 different manga series appear in the game either as fighters or support characters. With all of those options, creating a deck can be a daunting feat - especially if you’re a beginner and you don’t speak Japanese.

So today in Important Importables, we are going to offer a few Jump Ultimate Stars theme deck suggestions. Since even that could get a bit long (there are loads of possible creation options and everyone’s fighting style may vary), we’re going to focus on three anime series - Bleach, Naruto and One Piece
