Remember WarDevil? Well, it ain’t dead yet

by Christopher Buckner on Apr 30, 2008 at 11:50 PM

wardevilThere are some games that get a lot of attention when first revealed but then you don’t hear anything from them for months, if not years. WarDevil is one of those games.

First showed to the public back at E3 2004 and developed by United Kingdom based Digi-Guys, WarDevil was one of those first next-generation games that really showed what the PlayStation 3 technology was capable of doing. So much so that even my own college animation class studied it for a time. Digi-Guys would reveal another taste of WarDevil back at 2006’s E3, but in all that time, there hasn’t been a peep released about the game until now…

Rumor: Crytek leaving PC gaming behind

by Christopher Buckner on Apr 30, 2008 at 11:28 PM

crytekIn what could be another nail in the PC coffin, German developer Cyrtek, the makers of 2007’s smash hit Crysis, looks like it may be jumping the PC ship and swimming towards console shores.

Crytek studio director and company founder Cevat Yerli told PC Play about the troubles with PC gaming, namely the acts of piracy which have jeopardized the entire PC market (and helped the console market)…

Mothers MADD about GTA IV

by Christopher Buckner on Apr 30, 2008 at 10:55 PM

gta iv maddIt is no surprise that Tuesday’s release (April 29, 2008) of Grand Theft Auto IV would be one of 2008’s biggest events as thousands gamers nation wide lined up for hours to get the first next-generation release of the Grand Theft Auto series. It shouldn’t also surprise gamers to know that numerous watchdog groups have been vocal about GTA IV.

While there haven’t been many outcries to have GTA IV pulled from store shelves until now, the latest group to set GTA IV in their sights is Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)…

GamersGate to carry Capcom games

by Jenni Lada on Apr 30, 2008 at 01:30 PM

A screenshot from Bionic Commando Rearmed
Capcom fans who happen to be PC gamers will soon find their addiction fed by GamersGate. GamersGate, an online video game distribution site, and Capcom have entered into a deal which will allow users to purchase Capcom titles from the GamersGate site.

Initially, only a few games will be offered for download. The press release only mentions Plunder and Bionic Commando Rearmed as upcoming titles. Strategy Informer speculates that Devil May Cry 4 could end up being made available through GamersGate, and I have to agree that it seems very reasonable.

Game ads still getting yanked

by Lucy Newman on Apr 30, 2008 at 12:29 PM

games such as kane and lynch being pulled for violenceThe latest move in the ongoing fight to ban violent video games by non-gaming communities worldwide is pulling advertisements for upcoming video games. Besides TV commercials, the latest ads to be banned are from the sides of buses in Chicago.

One of the ads yanked from the sides of a buses and buildings is the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV ad, according to Game Daily. This occurred following a weekend of violent shootings and isn’t the first time GTA ads have been removed. It’s also not the first time any ad has been removed for being potentially too violent…

Move Over GTA: Petty crime and misdemeanor games (that will never get made)

by PJ Hruschak on Apr 29, 2008 at 05:39 PM

gamertell public urination the game box artNot much can make the heart race like doing something you know you’re not supposed to be doing. Perhaps that is why so many games rely on big-time crimes to provide adrenalin-boosting activities - stealing cars, massive property damage and murder.

Although videogames do allow people to partake in ethically questionable activities without actually hurting anyone or anything, not all illegal activities would make good games.

In the spirit of Grand Theft Auto, here are a few theoretical games with illegal activities for names that would simply never sell (which should make at least a few parents happy)…

Xbox exclusive Grand Theft Auto episodes in August

by Jenni Lada on Apr 29, 2008 at 04:49 PM

Grand Theft Auto IVGrand Theft Auto IV is now available, as of midnight, April 29, 2008. So do you have your copy? Of course you do. (I don’t, but I’m one of those annoying people who still hasn’t committed to a next-gen console.)

I know it’s a bit early to start thinking about additional content, seeing as most people probably haven’t even logged 10 hours in the game, but it’s good to keep it in mind. That way you’ll know when you need to get those Microsoft points to purchase it. Xbox 360 owners will be able to download two additional Grand Theft Auto IV episodes, and they’ll probably want to know when. So far the first additional installment has an August 2008 release date, and the second episode will be made available sometime after that.

Dear LucasArts: Please release a DS version of Maniac Mansion

by Jenni Lada on Apr 29, 2008 at 03:57 PM

Maniac Mansion for the NES box artDear LucasArts,

I’m writing to you as a fan of your classic adventure games. I feel your recent games are getting a bit repetitive. How many Star Wars games does one need to own?

Which brings me to my point: There should, nay, there must be a re-release of Maniac Mansion.

Maniac Mansion was a brilliant adventure game that was…

by Jenni Lada on Apr 29, 2008 at 02:40 PM

An image of the Puchi Puchi Virus Anti-Virus kit
If you’re upset about having to wait for NIS America’s delayed DS puzzle game Puchi Puchi Virus, there’s a slight silver lining. The company is going to make it up to you with a Puchi Puchi Virus contest.

The NIS America News page states that the company will be giving out four Puchi Puchi Virus Anti-Virus kits. Each kit comes with candy anti-virus pills (probably like the ones Joystiq received), Puchi Puchi Virus information, and a copy of Puchi Puchi Virus.

Keep reading for entry information.
